On behalf of our team at The Future is Wild@The Hillocks, we are pleased to announce that our resource consent application to QLDC is being publicly notified.

We have requested the application be publicly notified to spread the word about our proposal and invite enquires, feedback and support – check out https://www.fiw.co.nz.

The proposal - FiW @ The Hillocks

·       The proposal is an inclusive visitor attraction that uses state of the art technology in a world first linking of an outdoor/VR group experience. Visitors will be taken on guided tours and be immersed in Visitors will be immersed in a 360- degree cinematic virtual reality experience, unlike anything they’ve ever encountered. It will provide a real benefit to native biodiversity values and empower locals and visitors to enjoy, learn about and support our natural environment. 

Example of regenerative tourism in partnership with rūnunga and supported by previous and current governments 

·       The FiW will be an example of regenerative tourism. It received MBIE funding as part of the Innovation Tourism Recovery Programme. The FiW will be in partnership with Te Tapu O Tane, a local rūnunga-owned conservation organisation, to manage an on-site nursery to serve as a powerhouse to restore native vegetation in the Hillocks area. Over 100,000 trees will be planted to re-cloack part of Dart Farm and help restore indigenous biodiversity values generally, including riparian planting and wetland restoration.  Guests will not be treated as just visitors, they will be engaged and empowered participants. They will be encouraged to influence change in the environment by becoming ‘EcoCrusaders’, members of a global conservation community the FiW endeavors to foster.

Global phenomenon whilst keeping it local

·       The Future is Wild™ is driven by the principles of regenerative tourism, “The Future is Wild™” (FIW) stands as a worldwide phenomenon that transcends boundaries. Operating for over 20 years, with an original concept that fuses science, entertainment, and education, FIW continues to captivate audiences through television, literature, education, and technology. Its esteemed reputation is endorsed by its global presence and its translation into 30 languages, amassing a worldwide audience of over 1 billion viewers.

·       The FiW brings global experience and support to existing local tourism businesses and local interest groups, so as to value add to the existing tourism model as well as targeting improved environmental outcomes. This will also include large emphasis on creating an virtual tourism experience to experience Glenorchy and the rest of NZ

·       The FIW experience will leverage of the production of a new international TV series based around the original  FIW series . This is being co produced one of the most prestigious environmental content making film studios in the world
