BROOMHILL Sanctuary - A Living Tapestry of People, Land, and Learning
At BROOMHILL, food is understood as relationship — a living exchange between people, land, and season. Our Glenorchy-based gardens are regenerative learning spaces where
people are invited into direct participation with the rhythms of the whenua.
This is a place of reciprocity. Care given to the land returns as nourishment, learning,
practical skill, and a deeper sense of belonging within a living ecological system. Through
shared work in the gardens, seasonal harvests, and land-based learning, we cultivate both
food resilience and human connection.
A core focus of BROOMHILL is food sovereignty — supporting people to grow food with
confidence, awareness, and skill. Through hands-on experience and shared learning, we
strengthen household resilience and contribute to the wider capacity of our region to
respond to change.
BROOMHILL is a community-led initiative rooted within the Future Whenua ecosystem
and held by the Future Whenua Charitable Trust (CC60024). Its purpose is to regenerate
land, strengthen local food systems, and support collective wellbeing. All contributions flow
directly back into the land, gardens, and systems that sustain them — supporting soil
health, infrastructure, education, and community access.
Stewardship Collective — 35-Week Regenerative Membership
The Stewardship Collective is a 35-week seasonal commitment for people choosing an
ongoing relationship with the land and living systems of BROOMHILL.
Stewards take part in a shared rhythm of garden care, learning, harvesting, and seasonal
contribution. This structured pathway involves offering financial support, presence, and
active engagement in exchange for a weekly harvest share, practical skill development,
and direct involvement in a regenerative food system.
Grounded in reciprocity, the Stewardship Collective is a shared commitment to caring for
land, community, and ecological resilience. Stewards are invited to share observations and
feedback that help guide the ongoing development of the sanctuary.
Care given to the land returns as nourishment, knowledge, and a felt sense of belonging
within a living system of shared care.
The next cycle begins in September — we welcome enquiries at [email protected]
Local Volunteers — Open Participation Through the Living Calendar
Alongside the Stewardship Collective, BROOMHILL welcomes Local Volunteers into
flexible, open participation in seasonal activities through the Living Calendar.
Volunteers join garden sessions, workshops, harvest days, and land-based learning
experiences. This pathway is informal and adaptable, shaped by personal time, interest,
and capacity.
Through participation, volunteers connect directly with the gardens and seasonal rhythms
while contributing to the care of the whenua. In return, they receive learning, seasonal
insight, community connection, and hands-on experience of a regenerative landscape in
motion.
Seasonal Calendar — Community Learning and Gathering
The Living Calendar offers a wider programme of community gatherings and seasonal
learning experiences.
These include moon harvests, workshops, garden work sessions, and seasonal events
that invite people into relationship with natural cycles. These experiences support
ecological awareness, adaptability, creativity, and collective resilience.
Seed Co-operative — Learning the Cycles of Growth
Through our local Seed Co-operative, participants are invited into the practice of seed
saving, propagation, and seedling cultivation. This is foundational work in ecological
regeneration — supporting the continuity and resilience of local food systems.
The Seed Co-op is both practical and relational: a place to learn how life is carried forward,
shared, and renewed across seasons. In collaboration with local and regional partners, it
contributes to broader food sovereignty and ecological resilience.
A Living Relationship
BROOMHILL is not a place to visit, but a living relationship to enter — between people,
land, and the future we are actively growing together.
Here, learning, nourishment, and ecological care are expressions of one living system.
Rooted in nature. Guided by seasons. Shared through participation.
With gratitude,
The BROOMHILL Team
