REDUCING WASTE AND EMISSIONS AT THE HEAD OF THE LAKE

Sustainable Glenorchy is establishing a database of activities in and around Glenorchy that reduce waste e.g. food waste, recycling and/or repairing rather than buying new; minimising the release of harmful substances into the atmosphere and water; growing and distributing food locally; finding ways to reduce the environmental effects of transport; and any other activities that lead to the stabilisation or enrichment of the environment rather than its degradation. This is a first step in identifying 'who is doing what' in the community with contact details so anyone interested in getting involved in a particular activity could easily do so. We would also like to identify the gaps i.e. what other activities could be taken on in the future. We are aware that within the community there are groups undertaking some of these activities, and that there are many individuals with great ideas. We would love to hear from you with any information on your activity/group. Please contact us at sustainableglenorchy@gmail.com with contact details and information of the activity you're involved in. Our aim at this stage is to act as a source of information for the community. We envision that Sustainable Glenorchy could be instrumental in channelling individuals, who contact us, to existing group(s) of their interest or expertise, to their mutual benefit and to the benefit of the environment.
