Press Release

Buckler Burn Loop Trail – Stage One Complete!

The Glenorchy Trails Trust (GYTT) is excited to announce that Stage One of the Buckler Burn Loop Trail is now complete, providing a safe trail that connects Campbelltown and Glenorchy.

An official opening  and sausage sizzle will be held on Sunday 10th October from 12:00 – 14:00 at the township end of the trail and the community is invited to join the Trustees for a family-friendly celebration with the official cutting of the ribbon/tyre tube at 1300.

“We’re already working now on Stage Two, which will provide a footbridge across the Buckler Burn and a trail that will link Glenorchy with the incredible Whakaari Conservation Area” says Glenorchy Trails Trust Chair, Matt Belcher. The final stage will be along the true left of the Buckler Burn and back to Glenorchy to create a loop trail.

Stage One has been funded by QLDC late in the process, a “game-changer” says Belcher. Trustee Steve Hewland says it has been “blown away” by the level of community support and generous donations provided in what has been “a very tough year at the Head of the Lake”. Funding is also committed by Community Trust South, Central Lakes Trust and the Glenorchy Community Trust. This means Stage Two will push ahead far faster than initially planned.
