GLENORCHY TRAIL TRUST UPDATE

The GY Trails Trust has been in touch with DoC with regards to the replacement of the Lake Sylvan Bridge. We have heard from many of you that this is a much-loved track and we wanted to be sure that DoC understood its importance to the community. We recently received the following response from DoC as to their progress and we'll keep you updated with any further news:
"The Department had commissioned engineering designs for a replacement bridge, and
during this process have identified multiple stability concerns on the true left side at the
previous location. Therefore, it is unlikely that a like-for-like replacement would be a
resilient option which is causing us to explore other bridge locations. Our team of
engineers were onsite last week, assessing a new site which is in a more stable location,
with a smaller span. Once the assessment for this site has been finalised and approved,
engineering designs will be due to be completed within the next three months. The
construction of the bridge will then go to market as part of a tender process, which will
give us greater clarity of build time frames. I will endeavour to update you on these time
frames once this has occurred."
