SUSTAINABLE GLENORCHY HARVEST FESTIVAL

Mar 17, 2024 - 11:00am to 3:00pm

SUSTAINABLE GLENORCHY HARVEST FESTIVAL

UPDATE ATTACHED - CLICK ON THE BLUE PDF LINK AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS PAGE

Sustainable Glenorchy Inc. sees the residents as having the potential to be a "circular community", reducing the need to travel to Queenstown for items that can be produced locally. SG is planning to hold a Harvest Festival on Sunday 17 March from 11am to 3pm on the Village Green if it is sunny, or in the Hall if not.

We envisage a variety of stalls of two kinds:

1) fruit, vegetables, nuts, seeds, plants and products that are excess to requirements, offered by residents of Glenorchy township and the outlying community for the benefit of other Glenorchy community members.

2) stalls that inform about sustainable initiatives that are being thought of, or that are already undertaken in the community, with a view to increasing general awareness of what is ‘out there’. Some examples are: composting, waste water treatment, thoughts about a community garden, repair cafés, and clothes swapping initiatives.

There will also be food, music, a great atmosphere and lots of fun! Envisage sack races, three-legged races, an egg and spoon race, and other activities.

Please earmark Sunday, 17th of March, in your diary.

Needless to say, we are also looking for contributors! If you can help with fun activities, or if you think you may have excess harvest, clothing, glass jars, or anything at all that might be useful to others, if you are already involved in a sustainable initiative, or if you have none of these but would like to help to make this event successful, we would really love to hear from you. The more of us actively involved, the more fun we will have!
