This Saturday, 22nd July, in conjunction with Mrs Woolly’s Great Glenorchy Getaway Day and celebrating the theme of RESILIENCE, Camp Glenorchy has two announcements of special interest to the Glenorchy Community:

1. Camp Glenorchy is giving away as much FREE SCRAP LUMBER & FIREWOOD as you can haul away.

It’s all part of our commitment to re-use and recycle as much as possible of the construction materials used to help build Camp Glenorchy. The wood we’re offering is largely good-size scraps from sustainably-sourced timber and from older structures that have found new homes in the cabins, and buildings that are taking shape at NZ’s first Net Zero energy campground.

Enter the construction scrap yard off of Coll Street, behind Mrs Woolly's Campground. Fill your truck or trunk or trailer to the brim and stock up on free fuel for your winter wood stove. Gilly will be on hand to help you load your wood. 10am-noon only.

2. Free “sneak peek” tours of Camp Glenorchy, at 12pm and 3pm, will feature information about the site’s ability to shelter 100 people for a week as a civil defence welfare centre.

In addition, site tours will include a walk-through of the Commons Building, which has progressed substantially, Dan Kelly’s nearly-complete Scheelite Campfire Shelter, early views of the constructed wetland that will treat all wastewater onsite, and a view of what the cabins will look like inside when fully furnished and available in late December.

Family activities, workshops, Camp Glenorchy tours, live music, roasting marshmallows by the bonfire and more are all free on Saturday. Wine tasting, a hot, hearty dinner and a series of special shorts selected from the 2017 NZ Mountain Film Festival are also available for a nominal fee.
