QTN CATALYST TALK - inSight: a sneak peek into our future

Aug 29, 2016 - Sep 2, 2016

Catalyst is pleased to announce inSight - Queenstown's science, technology and innovation week, with events and activities for all the family.

inSight: a sneak peek into our future, 29 August - 2 September

Catalyst presents five stunning days of science, technology and innovation with challenges, presentations and demonstrations for all the family.

Fascinating speakers, short film screenings, Lab in a Box, student showcase events, science and citizenship sessions, and a packed programme of activities involving schools across the Wakatipu are designed to get you investigating the big issues, accessing the experts and charting the path ahead for our community.

Remember last year’s ‘Question It’ science week? inSight picks up from there!

inSight has three streams:

1. Leading Edge – provocative public presentations and events

Take a sneak peek at the latest research and expertise in a series of public presentations featuring superlative scientist-communicators exploring the complex operations of our brain, get hands on with experimental science at Lab in a Box, and explore the criminal mind at a science and citizenship session.

2. Sci Shorts – science short film festival

Crazy critters, troubled ecosystems and compelling human stories light up the screen in our science short film festival featuring six movies over three nights by talented, much-awarded young filmmakers.

3. Fast Forward – schools investigate ‘Future Queenstown’

Get a sneak peek at Queenstown’s future, according to those who’ll be living in it: today’s students. Led by Wakatipu High School, enjoy showcase and salon-style events featuring student work and presentations, as well as science busking in the streets of downtown Queenstown. Schools across the Wakatipu basin will collaborate in table-top science activities, the return of Lab in a Box, and workshops, talks and debates investigating our community’s future.

All public events are either gold coin entry or free.

Building on the inaugural ‘QUESTION IT – Bringing Big Science to Queenstown’ programme presented by Catalyst in 2015, we intend that inSight becomes a regular event in Queenstown’s calendar.

We’d like to thank our supporters including Curious Minds, Brain Health Research Centre, University of Otago, Centre for Science and Citizenship, Centre for Science Communication, Queenstown Lakes District Council, Mainfreight and Fluid Design.
