CATALYST RE-LAUNCHES - AUGUST 2022

Aug 7, 2022

Catalyst Trust, dedicated to bringing big ideas and informed community debate on public issues to the Whakatipu basin, is relaunching with a discussion on co-governance next Wednesday (August 10) and a Mayoral Candidate Forum on Tuesday, September 13.

Former National Party Treaty Negotiations Minister and Attorney General Chris Finlayson will background what co-governance means, where it is headed and whether that is what proposed health sector and Three Waters reform really is.  He’ll also ask, why is it so feared?

He says it is not the same as co-government, it is happening already, “and the sky has not fallen in”.

Catalyst Trust co-chair Cath Gilmour says the effects of social media disinformation and misinformation on our democracy will be Catalyst’s next subject, with discussion led by The Disinformation Project’s Dr Sanjana Hattotuwa on September 1.  More information and registration is available here

Details of Catalyst’s Mayoral Candidate Forum, designed to give the community a chance to hear more than a soundbite to base their votes on who will lead our council and community, will be announced on Catalyst Trust’s website and Facebook page soon. Three of the four candidates whose names are in the ring so far have confirmed their attendance.

Other events in Catalyst’s pipeline include discussions about findings of the landmark Dunedin Longitudinal Study, historical amnesia and a monthlong focus on space.

Registration and masks are required for all Catalyst Trust events, with koha collected given to a charity or local community group working in the area covered by each event’s topic.
