FREEDOM CAMPING BYLAW

DRAFT "FREEDOM CAMPING BYLAW"

A lot of you will have given preliminary feedback on Freedom Camping options.  That helped to determine what has made it into the Draft Bylaw.

Now we need you to submit on the Draft Bylaw - "it's called death by consultation" - the alternative is not enough consultation

The most contentious matter for Glenorchy will be the ability for freedom campers (in 'self-contained' vehicles) to camp at the Rec Ground - in the carpark and along the side of the driveway by the looks of it (N.B. not on the grass)

The draft bylaw would also permit Freedom Camping on all the roads beyond GY - except the Precipice Creek carpark.

It would be worth informing the Hearing Panel of any concerns, including farming related concerns, fire risk, toileting etc.  Alternatively, you might want to support Freedom Camping in certain areas or suggest additional restrictions related to times or numbers, or request enforcement.

If you'd like to submit, there's a survey to fill in on 'Let's Talk' - just click the link Draft Freedom Camping Bylaw Survey.  All the related documents are there for you to read.  It does pay to make an informed submission.

You can also email QLDC with 'Submission on 'Freedom Camping Bylaw' in the subject line (email: services@qldc.govt.nz

If you'd like to speak to the Hearing Panel, note that in your submission - speaking to the Panel can help to get your point across.

 Submissions close 3 September.
