ROUTEBURN TRACK HUT BOOKINGS OPEN 20TH JUNE

If you want to tick off the Routeburn Track this summer, now is the time to plan your trip with friends/family – especially if you want to walk over the Christmas/New Year period as these dates usually disappear in a matter of hours or even minutes. Hut bookings for the coming summer on the Routeburn Track open 9.30am 20th June 2018. If you want to secure hut tickets we suggest creating a DOC login prior to this time and becoming familiar with the booking system.
Overseas visitors (including children) will this summer pay $130 per night to walk the Routeburn Track. Even though this price is now double compared to the fees for Kiwi’s ($65 per night, children free of charge), we suspect availability for popular dates will still disappear quickly when hut bookings open.

If you'd rather save some pennies and get a little further off the beaten track there are many other trails in our Glenorchy area ranging from short walks to multi day tramps. For instance, beginners wanting to overnight in a DOC hut could walk to Mid Caples Hut and back. For more challenge, the Cascade Saddle winds over the mountains to/from the Rees-Dart Track. Visit the Department of Conservation Website or Visitor Centre for more information.
Remember – when heading into the outdoors, you must be well prepared. This includes visiting the Department of Conservation before you walk, considering the trail conditions, weather forecast and also full DOC huts. Leave your intentions with friends/family and ensure they know what to do if you don’t return when you plan to.
