GLENORCHY ROAD RAT POINT FIRE

Jan 12, 2017

One campsite fire during a Total Fire Ban time = one 350 community cut off the rest of the world for a day with no road access and no electricity, over 60 firefighters and 9 choppers fighting the blaze for 24 hours, local businesses with no customers or difficulties to carry on with work, stuck tourists in the valleys, locals stuck on the other side...
Result?
Over 150ha of destroyed native bus & wildlife, enormous costs & resources, residents of the adjacent areas in fear of a possible evacuation...

A HUGE THANK YOU from the entire Community to everyone involved - especially to our Glenorchy Fire Brigade and all firefighters involved - you guys are amazing and your skills and commitment are very valued!
And the DELTA crew who incredibly managed to bring the electricity back BEFORE MIDNIGHT last night - you are a legend!!
Also good job QLDC for keeping everyone informed via their website & social media.
