Glenorchy Community Trust Announces Inaugural Grant Recipients

GLENORCHY, NEW ZEALAND, 28 November 2018 - The Glenorchy Community Trust, a locally-administered charitable organisation supporting vibrancy and resilience of the community at the head of Lake Wakatipu, today announced the outcome of their inaugural grant funding round.

Directed by a small group of dedicated Trustees, the Glenorchy Community Trust met to assess grant applications and make its first distribution of funds to projects that align with the Trust mission and goals. The Trust’s vision is that residents of Glenorchy live in a healthy, regenerative partnership with the natural environment, reflecting the community’s self-reliant, diverse, welcoming and innovative character.

“We were excited by the quality of the applications and the way they matched the purposes of the Trust. The Trust approved four grants totalling $10,500 to support great work in our small community,” said Glenorchy Community Trust Chair, Paul Ferris.

The successful applicants were:

  • Glenorchy Playgroup
  • Routeburn Dart Wildlife Trust
  • Glenorchy Heritage and Museum Group
  • James Glover (in support of Outward Bound participation)

The Trustees recognised the generosity of the benefactors of the Trust (Paul and Debbi Brainerd) and their commitment to the community. “As Camp Glenorchy, and The Headwaters, grows its business the Trust will continue to seek ways that build our community and support those living in it,” Mr Ferris added.

The Glenorchy Trust website will have stories and photos uploaded before Christmas to show the work being done by the Trust, and encourages the wider Glenorchy Community to continue to look for opportunities where the Trust can be a party to an important project. Grant applications will be viewed three times a year and

The next round of applications are invited to be submitted by 27 February 2019.
