SUSTAINABLE QUEENSTOWN GREEN DRINKS

Sep 17, 2020 - 7:00pm

How much food waste is produced in Queenstown and what happens to it all?
We are thrilled to welcome three incredible people to this month's Green Drinks to talk all things food waste.
Blandina Diamond is the new General Manager of KiwiHarvest who, to date, have rescued 4,811,806 kilos of food across New Zealand! The KiwiHarvest operation came to Queenstown as a pilot at the end of 2018 with the help of Sustainable Queenstown, and is now on the edge of a big expansion. Blandina will give us an insight into the KiwiHarvest story; past, present and future, and how the Queenstown branch fits into the national operation.
Lee Nicolson is the head coordinator at Baskets of Blessings, one of the KiwiHarvest recipient charities here in Queenstown. What happens to the rescued food once it gets delivered? Lee will paint us a picture of how the cycle continues when it reaches her doors and how rescued food makes its way into our community.
Michael Sly is one of the founding fathers of Sustainable Queenstown and since passing on the bat, has continued his mission to create solutions to environmental issues in Queenstown Lakes. Michael runs an operation collecting the food KiwiHarvest is unable to take and uses it for something quite different to Lee; think native reforestation, compost and essential oils!
See you at 7pm on Thursday 17th for a 7.20pm start and, as always, thanks goes to our sponsors Fuji Xerox for helping to make our Green Drinks possible.
