GREAT GLENORCHY GETAWAY DAY - THE GIFTS OF SPRING

Growing season is on its way and on Saturday 16th September the Great Glenorchy Getaway Day is celebrating the GIFTS OF SPRING!

Join your friends and neighbours at The Great Glenorchy GetawaySaturday 16th September for a fun-filled day bursting with over a dozen fresh market stalls, live music, free workshops and family fun.

See you at Mrs Woolly’s from 10am for a glorious day out packed with inspiration, over a dozen market stalls, lambs, chickens and great ideas for gardening and living off the land.

Market stalls will include organically-grown Fresh & Yummy produce, a wide selection of native plants and fruit trees from Kingston’s John Allan, a wide variety of locally-adapted seeds from Caro Rennebeck, and heritage vege seeds from Josie Blackshaw. Mrs Woolly’s will be featuring gardening supplies and a beautiful range of products to help you embrace the season. And the ever-changing Mrs Woolly’s sale table will be back!

Plus there’ll be BBQ Brunch Buns and Shepherd’s Pies, tours of Camp Glenorchy at noon and 3pm, sheep shearing, live music by Lyall McGregor, delicious wine and craft beer tastings, a delicious three-mains/three-sides dinner from Wild Earth Kitchens, the movie Pecking Order and plenty of free fun for the whole family throughout the day. 

Come support and learn at free workshops from local GY neighbours: 

  • 11.30am:  Christine Byrch of Glenorchy Honey shares her wisdom on the rewards and challenges of beekeeping.
  • 12pm: Glenorchy’s guru of upcycling and bespoke furniture, Mike Kingan, teaches you how to build a functional bird house with timber scraps.
  • 2pm: Caro Rennebeck of Homegrown Glenorchy runs a small organic garden that’s big on the power of greens. Caro shares her incredible knowledge on how connection with our environment creates a natural and healthy lifestyle.

Bring the family… and the pets too!

  • 10am-3pm: Our friends at Dart River Jet keep the kids entertained with free face painting and fun zone
  • 12pm-2pm: Meet sweet spring lambs 
  • 2pm: Watch sheep shearing by award-winning shearer Dave Clarke 
  • 3pm: Things go to the dogs with The GY Pet Show!

Mrs Woolly’s will be the fun place to be the night of Saturday 16th December:

  • 4pm:  Craft beer tasting with B.Effect Brewing Company. Discover Wanaka’s extraordinary brews with brewmaster James Hay.  Beer tasting $12pp 
  • 5pm:  Wild Earth wine tasting. The eagerly-awaited 2017 spring release Rose and Pinot Gris are here! Sample fresh arrivals as well as their award-winning Pinot Noir and world-class aged Riesling. Wine tasting $15pp
  • 5:45pmWild Earth Kitchens wine-barrel roasted dinner in honour of the fresh flavours of spring
    • Includes Wild Earth’s savoury pork ribs in fresh spring marinade, Akaroa salmon and beef short ribs accompanied by three fresh zesty salads including baby potato & spring vegetable, dirty wild rice & broccolini, and cauliflower/garden leaf salad with spring carrots (wow!).
    • Evening programme: Raising hens at homewith Robyn and Robert Guytonof Riverton’s food forest, and…
    • A special screening of the hilarious and endearing documentary film PeckingOrder, hailed as “the best chicken film of the year”!
