QTN CATALYST - TALES OF NORTH KOREA

Sep 28, 2016 - 7:30pm

Tales of North Korea’s human rights violations - as detailed by defectors and spread by activists - might be one of the most effective ways to tackle this regime and its impacts, according to Catalyst Trust’s next speaker.

“Is it true what happened to you? Stories of North Korea’s human rights violations and a path of action to make them otherwise” is the title of Canadian Assoc Prof Bob Huish’s talk on Wednesday, September 28, 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Rees Hotel Queenstown conference room.

Currently the Ron Lister Fellow at University of Otago, his research into human rights abuse and the refugee crisis within North Korea has uncovered haunting defector testimony. “The narratives of abuse, degradation and extreme poverty are often beyond imagination.”

Huish’s talk focuses on “one of the most complicated political geographies on the planet,” and how activism and defiance rather than government edict is more likely to lead to change.
